The activities of the FPI are prohibited under the Joint Decree of the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, the Minister of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia, the Head of the Indonesian National Police and the Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency Number 220-4780 of 2020; M.HH 14.HH.05.05 Year 2020; 690 of 2020; 264 of 2020; KB / 3 / XII / 2020; 320 of 2020 dated December 30, 2020 on the prohibition of activities, the use of symbols and attributes and the termination of FPI activities.
“There are four things that are conveyed in the ad, one of which is not in line with the spirit of democracy that respects freedom of information and can also threaten journalists and the media, whose main task is to seek information and disseminate it to the public “, reads at the beginning of the statement of position of the Press Community. issued in Jakarta, Friday (1/1/2020) evening.

One of the contents of the ad, to be precise in article 2 letter d, states: “The public does not access, upload or disseminate content related to FPI or through websites or social networks.
In response to article 2 letter d on the information, the press community expressed four attitudes. First of all, the Information from the Chief of Police in article 2 letter d is excessive and does not conform to our spirit as a democratic state that values the right of society to obtain and disseminate information.

This right is clearly established in article 28F of the 1945 Constitution, which establishes: “Everyone has the right to communicate and obtain information to develop their personal and social environment, as well as the right to search, obtain, possess, store, process and transmit information through all available channels. “.
Secondly, this edict violates the duties of journalists and the media, who by their profession fulfill the function of seeking and disseminating information to the public, including the FPI. The right of journalists to seek information has been regulated in article 4 of Law No. 40 of 1999 on the Press (Press Law).
The content is more specifically Article 4 paragraph (3) of the Press Law, which states, “(3) To guarantee freedom of the press, the national press has the right to seek, obtain and disseminate ideas and information.”
For the Press Community, the content of the Statement that it will prosecute anyone who disseminates information about FPI, can also be classified as a “transmission ban”. The prohibition is contrary to article 4, paragraph 2, of the Press Law.
“Third, to urge the Chief of the National Police to revoke article 2d of the Declaration because it contains provisions that do not conform to the principles of a democratic state, do not conform to the 1945 Constitution and are contrary to the Press Law” said the Press Community.
Fourth, the Press Community continues to urge the national press to continue reporting on various matters related to the public interest as mandated by the Press Law.
This attitude statement was issued by Abdul Manan as General President of AJI Indonesia, Atal S Depari as General President of PWI Pusat, Hendriana Yadi as General President of IJTI, Hendra Eka as General Secretary of PFI, Kemal E Gani as Chairman of the Editorial Forum and Wenseslaus Manggut as general president.
