Lisbon –
Portugal collapsed at home to France in the UEFA Nations League. N’Golo Kante brought Les Bleus home with a 1-0 win.
The Portugal vs France match took place at the Estadio Da Luz, Lisbon, Portugal, on Sunday morning (11/15) WIB. This is the fifth matchday of Group C.
Portugal immediately stepped on the accelerator at the start of the match. Cristiano Ronaldo took France out with a strong shot from the front of the penalty area. It’s just that Hugo Lloris can block Ronaldo’s shot.
France slowly took control of the game. Kingsley Coman entered the host’s penalty area in the tenth minute. This effort has not resulted in a goal after the Bayern Munich player’s kick ball was still ignored.
Two minutes later, France threatened Portugal again. Anthony Martial got a heads up with Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio after receiving a pass from Antoine Griezmann. Patricio managed to block Martial’s shot with his left foot.
France almost took the lead after half an hour. Martial’s header failed to produce a goal after hitting the crossbar.
Portugal was forced to continue playing more defensively at home. On the other hand, France did not manage to score a goal until the break.
France’s hard work only paid off in the second half. N’Golo Kante successfully kicked off Portugal’s goal in the 53rd minute after recovering the rebound from Adrien Rabiot’s shot.
Portugal almost leveled in the 60th minute. A pass from Bernardo Silva to the French area was received with a header from José Fonte, but the ball still hit the crossbar from Hugo Lloris.
Portugal increasingly locked in the rapid counterattack of France. Even several times the away line was able to create mature opportunities that sometimes resulted in corners or threats until the 75th minute.
In the 77th minute, Portugal had a golden opportunity through Ronaldo. However, he was late for a cross to be scored as the ball was spiked by Presnel Kimpembe.
Until the end of normal time, no additional goals were created from the two teams. As a result, France managed to pocket three points and beat Portugal at home.
France currently leads the standings with 13 points and Portugal is second with 10 points. Sweden, who simultaneously beat Croatia 2-1, are in fourth place with three points. They only lost on goal difference to Croatia.
