Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Indonesian Police stated that one of the sources of funding for the Jamaah Islamiyah group (APPEAR) is the result of misuse of the charity box function at the convenience store.
“And the misuse of the charity fund function that we found was located in mini markets in various regions of Indonesia,” said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Awi Setiyanto, at the Police Headquarters, Monday (11/30).
The JI group used the funds to send terrorists to Syria for military training and terrorist tactics.
In addition, the funds were also used to pay the regular salaries of the JI Markaziyah leaders and the purchase of weapons and explosives for the amaliyah or jihad.
Awi said, Densus 88 managed to dismantle the JI figures that played a role in controlling and financing this activity. The demolition of the figures took place after the arrest of JI’s highest emir, Para Wijayanto, on June 29, 2019.
Densus 88 also managed to capture 24 major JI figures from October to November 2020.
“24 leading figures and members of JI who control and finance the Jamaah Islamiyah organization,” Awi said.
Since the arrest, several leaders of JI were observed to be the controllers and main sponsors, including BY, who had served as Tahjiz in the field of human resources and asset control of JI, FS as administrator of Abdurahman bin Auf, the foundation that supports the financing of the operations of JI, and then W as a member of Tahjiz.
There is also E as Qoid or leader of the western region of Qodimah, USA as advisor and chairman of Amir’s election committee, and A as a member of the social and welfare sector of JI members.
Awi said that from the results of the Densus 88 investigation, the JI group was seen to continue to grow. JI itself is an organization that has been officially banned by the state.
“Because they played a role in a series of criminal acts of terrorism in Indonesia, such as Bombings 1 and 2 of Bali, the JW Marriot Bomb, the 2000 Christmas Eve Bomb, a series of various other acts of terrorism in Indonesia that have caused about 2,000 people become victims, “Awi said. .
Previously, Densus 88 arrested the suspect in the terrorism case on behalf of Taufik Bulaga aka Upik Lawanga. He was detained during an operation that took place on November 23 and 25, 2020 in Lampung.
“Upik Lawanga is the most valuable asset of Jamaah Islamiyah or JI because UL is Dr. Azhari’s successor, so the JI group hid him and moved him,” Awi said.
