Police arrest hundreds of Omnibus Law protesters in Surabaya-Malang

Hundreds of people who participated in the demonstration against the Omnibus Law of the Employment Creation Law at the Grahadi State Building, Surabaya, were arrested by the police. They are suspected of participating in the destruction of public facilities when they clashed with the police.

“In front of the Grahadi building there are about a hundred people [yang diamankan]”said East Java Regional Police Head of Public Relations, Kombes Pol Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, in Grahadi on Thursday (8/10) evening.

In addition to Surabaya, hundreds of other people were also arrested in Malang. The protesters were insured for destroying public facilities.


“Then in Malang there are about a hundred people. Full data will follow,” Truno said.

Then the police will carry out an inspection process on them. He said his party was still studying the items that would be suspicious of those arrested.

“Later on, we will see for their various roles. Before we saw that there was destruction of public facilities, there was also action against the officers, ”he said.

Insured demonstrators will also undergo a rapid Covid-19 test. If the results are reactive, they are swabbed and quarantined.

“We will do a rapid test if the result is reactive we will continue with the swab. When the Covid-19 is positive, we will quarantine it,” he said.

Previously, the demonstration against the Omnibus Job Creation Act at the Grahadi State Building was chaotic. The masses broke through the gates on the west and east sides of Grahadi.

The police then deployed a water cannon and fired tear gas. Clashes then broke out at the intersection of Balai Pemuda and Jalan Basuki Rahmat in front of Tunjungan Plaza.
