According to him, Prabowo also needs to immediately improve the territorial security system so that the incidence of drone smuggling in Indonesian waters does not occur again in the coming days.
More than that, Sukamta said the government must immediately reveal the origin of the drones in the Straits of Malacca. He argued that the government should launch strong protests and take firm diplomatic action if the drone really belongs to China.
“This is a sign that all this time our marine area is very easy to penetrate by foreign parties. It is very possible that until now there are many drones roaming the territory of Indonesia and taking important geographic data and the marine potential of Indonesia” said the vice president of the PKS DPR RI faction.
“This means that our national security is very vulnerable. The government must seriously reveal the origin of these drones,” he added.
Sukamta also called on the Indonesian Navy and the Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) to reinforce patrols, especially at the entrances to Indonesian territory.
He recalled that the tensions in the South China Sea involving China, the United States, Australia and several countries in the Southeast Asian region would inevitably affect Indonesia’s territorial security.
Therefore, according to him, Indonesia should increase its vigilance by conducting strict patrols.
“Indonesian territory that is in a zone of tension can be exploited by other countries in conflict. Of course, we do not want our territory to be looted by foreigners,” Sukamta said.
Earlier, an Indonesian fisherman found a missile-like object with a camera on Selayar Island in South Sulawesi yesterday on Christmas Eve.
Australian Institute of Strategic Policy security and defense expert Malcolm Davis suspects that the object is an underwater drone sent by China to understand oceanography and the nature of the region’s underwater bathymetry.
According to ABC News, Davis said the incident was worth watching because the drone was found on a major sea lane linking the South China Sea to the Indian Ocean near mainland Australia.
