Pigai responded to racism with criticism. According to him, the massacres, killings and human rights crimes in Papua during the Joko Widodo government tended to be based on racism.
“All crimes in Papua are based on racial hatred. Papuans will never be able to live comfortably with a racist nation. Jakarta must turn on the faucet of democracy with the people of Papua. Otherwise, I fear that instability may ensue due to racial conflicts in Papua. I am a humanitarian defender who has a moral obligation to remember, “said Pigai. CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (1/25).
Jokowi’s relationship with the Papuan people is also often the center of attention. One of them was after the racist action in Surabaya in August 2019.
At that time, the people of Papua held various demonstrations in various areas. The demonstration was sparked by unscrupulous officials who called the Papuan students in Surabaya monkeys.
The case even sparked unrest in Manokwari on August 19, 2019. Jokowi intervened, asking Papuans to forgive. He also promised to respect Papua.
“Rest assured that the government will protect the honor and well-being of Pakce Mace, the women of Papua and West Papua,” Jokowi said on August 19, 2019.
