JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – PT Pertamina (Persero) is currently reviewing the use of low octane fuel oil or BBMs below 91, namely Premium and Pertalite.

The president and director of Pretamina Nicke Widyawati explained that the review was carried out as an effort by the company to support the government’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Regulation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Number 20 of 2017.

“The regulation implies that gasoline which is sold for a minimum of 91 RON, which means that there are two BBM products that can then no longer be sold on the market, namely Premium (88) and Pertalite (90), “he said at the Hearing Meeting of Opinion with Commission VII, on Monday (8/31/2020).

This plan should be reviewed because the consumption portion of the two types of fuel is the largest of the six types of fuel that the company sells. On August 22, 2020, Premium sales reached 24,000 Kilo liters (KL) and Pertalite 51,500 KL.

Meanwhile, sales of fuel with a RON higher than 91, namely Pertamax (92), are only KL 10,000. Meanwhile, Pertamax Turbo (98) is quite 700 KL.

“So the impact of this needs to be studied again. We also encourage consumption by people who can switch to environmentally friendly fuels,” said Nicke.

Furthermore, Nicke said again, in Asia, currently only Indonesia and Bangladesh continue to consume the equivalent of Premium fuel. Meanwhile, globally there are five other countries, namely Colombia, Egypt, Mongolia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

Earlier, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif said that his party and related ministries were aggressively encouraging people to switch to using green fuels or above RON 91 to reduce carbon emissions.

This is because Indonesia is currently one of the six countries that still consume Premium. “In the future there will be a replacement for the use of cleaner energy. But of course, this step requires preparation,” he said recently.
