The police named the president of the Pekanbaru FPI, Husni Thamrin, as a suspect because he was suspected of having forcibly dispersed the demonstration against Habib Rizieq Syihab. Police said Husni was suspected of involvement when the FPI crowd forcibly seized the loudspeaker and took over the stage of the demonstration.

“At the end of the action there was almost a riot when several people from the city of FPI Pekanbaru made a scene grabbing speakers and trying to take control of the stage,” Pekanbaru Police Chief Kombes Nandang Mu’min Wijaya said on Wednesday (11/25/2020).

The incident allegedly took place when there was a demonstration against the arrival of Habib Rizieq in front of the Riau Governor’s Office, on Monday (11/23). The demonstration, according to the police, has obtained a permit.

At the end of the demonstration, a crowd suspected of being FPI arrived and caused a commotion. The police then conducted an investigation and arrested Husni on Tuesday (11/24).

“The FPI forcibly dissolved the declaration of 45 elements of social organizations and community leaders who rejected the arrival of HRS in Pekanbaru,” Nandang said.
