The Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas will affirm the religious rights of Shiite and Ahmadiyah groups in Indonesia. The Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) asked Yaqut to provide clarification so that the policy would not provoke misperceptions.

“Maybe first what the Minister of Religion means should be clarified so that people don’t misunderstand it. There should be dialogue, there should be clarification. So, don’t get it wrong first. There is a trend for people, there has been no explanation yet . I think it has reacted. It needs to cool down so it doesn’t turn into confusion, “Waskjen PBNU Masduki Baidlowi told reporters on Friday (12/25/2020).

Masduki understood Yaqut’s intention to want minority groups to obtain their rights as citizens. He understands the perspective of protecting minority groups’ right to worship that Yaqut wants to affirm.

“It doesn’t matter having religion, people who have no religion in the perspective of the Constitution and in the context of human rights are protected. Pak Mahfud Md as a legal expert once said that. So if it is in the context of rights of citizens, this could be part of what the Minister of Religion wants to accomplish, “he said. .

Even so, Masduki felt that Yaqut still needed to provide more explanations about the plan. On the other hand, Masduki believes that every citizen has rights that must be protected by the state.

“For this reason, we want confirmation, explanation and dialogue, what the minister of religion means. It is not fair if we look at the persecution that minority groups experience. Although they have the right as citizens,” he said.

“Because our country is not a religious state. So that every citizen has the same rights in this country. So the rights of the majority with the minority have the same rights before the state and the law. That principle could be what he meant. the minister, “he added.

Masduki explained that Ahmadiyya is divided into two groups, namely the Ahmadiyya of the Lahore Pakistani school of thought and the Indian Qadian. He said that Lahore Ahmadiyah considers Mirza Ghulam Ahmad to be a reformer. Meanwhile, Ahmadiyah Qadian sees Mirza Gulam Ahmad as a prophet after Prophet Muhammad.
