Liverpool –
Manchester City must be very patient in dismantling the Everton defense. In the end, the Citizens won 2-0 and qualified for the FA Cup semi-finals.
The city visited Goodison Park on Sunday (3/21/2021) WIB early in the morning, opposite Everton. This is an important match for City in order to maintain a clean sweep of the title this season.
Going down several second-tier players, City is still too difficult for Everton. Unfortunately, Everton made it difficult for City from the first minutes.
Recorded BBC, City has 15 attempts with six on goal and controls 74 percent of the ball’s possession. Leaving just 26 percent for Everton, this is their opponent’s lowest ball possession record since March 2018.
Still, City’s waves of attacks were always interrupted by Everton’s defense, before the deadlock was broken in the 84th minute when Ilkay Guendogan broke Everton’s net. Kevin De Bruyne solidified City’s 2-0 victory in the 90th minute.
City also qualified for the FA Cup semi-finals for three consecutive seasons and still have a chance to win four titles this season. The victory was a relief for coach Pep Guardiola, because Everton was very difficult.
“A very difficult game. We see that Everton is so committed, very focused, very aggressive in defense,” Guardiola was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
“They don’t even attack us at all and we are very patient. This is our toughest match in the last four months. Our toughest match after the international break,” he continued.
“Tonight has been very difficult, they have experienced players when it comes to holding the ball with two other players ready to counterattack. Extraordinary commitment from the players. This victory is very solid,” concluded Pep Guardiola.
