JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Presidential Personnel Office expert Donny Gahral Adian confirmed that President Joko Widodo listened to and considered the proposal to postpone the 2020 simultaneous regional elections presented by the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) and Muhammadiyah.

“Certainly (considerate), they have solid arguments, they have a solid foundation as to why it should be postponed. I think that, especially like the big mass organizations like Muhammadiyah and PBNU, the government will be very concerned,” Donny said when contacted by the Monday (9/21/2020)).

Donny emphasized that the government always takes into account all input from various parties regarding the implementation of Pilkada 2020 simultaneously.

However, the current government has yet to decide whether the Pilkada 2020 will take place as scheduled or be postponed first.

“Of course, everything must be heard and considered. But God willing, it won’t be long before it is decided whether or not to postpone it with each consequence,” he said.

Donny said that the General Election Commission (KPU) had three options from the outset regarding when to postpone the Pilkada due to the Covid-19 pandemic, namely the end of this year, 2021 and 2022.

The government and the RPD have agreed that the vote will take place on December 9 of this year by passing Perppu No 2 of 2020 as law.

Still, Donny said it was possible that Pilkada could be postponed again if Covid-19 cases continued to rise and were alarming.

“Yes, of course you can take the next option, it could be next year, it could be next year. So, don’t say that the government wants this year, because the KPU has presented all three options,” he said.

If in the future the government and the DPR agree to postpone the regional elections, Donny also assures that there will be a new legal umbrella to regulate it.

“But we have to decide first, this year or next or next year. We are waiting for the decision,” Donny said.

The Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) requested that the Pilkada 2020 be simultaneously postponed.

This was broadcast because the UN assessed that the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia had reached an emergency level.

PBNU President Said Aqil Siroj said that with the Covid-19 pandemic, the top priority of state and government policies should be geared towards alleviating the health crisis.

Therefore, in addition to requesting that Pilkada 2020 be postponed, PBNU also requested that Pilkada’s budget be reallocated to manage the health crisis and strengthen the social safety net.

The Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah (PP) also called for the Pilkada 2020 to be postponed simultaneously during the Covid-19 pandemic.

PP Muhammadiyah Secretary General Abdul Mu’ti explained that the postponement proposal was expressed for humanitarian reasons during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to him, public safety during the Covid-19 pandemic is the most important thing. Furthermore, currently the number of Covid-19 patients in Indonesia is also increasing every day.
