KONTAN.CO.ID – WASHINGTON. US President Donald Trump, who is still receiving treatment for Covid-19, suddenly canceled on Tuesday (7/10/2020) talks with Democrats about an economic aid stimulus package for his country affected by the pandemic.
Quotation Reuters, Trump’s cancellation of the new stimulus talks on Twitter spooked Wall Street. This caused the stock market to fall as much as 2% from its session high.
In his first major policy statement since returning to the White House, Trump abruptly canceled negotiations with Democratic lawmakers on a coronavirus aid law until after the election, even as virus cases were on the rise in most countries. .
“I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election, as soon as I win, we will pass a major stimulus bill focused on the American worker and small businesses,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Trump’s actions drew immediate criticism from members of the Democratic Congress and at least one Republican, who said more stimulus was needed to help millions of Americans who lost their jobs in the health crisis that has killed more than 210,000 Americans.
“Today, once again, President Trump is showing his true colors: putting himself first at the expense of the country,” said Democratic Party Chair Nancy Pelosi. She added: “The White House is in total chaos.”

In a phone call with her fellow Democrats, Pelosi said Trump’s trial was influenced by one of the drugs he was taking, the steroid dexamethasone, which is generally used in the most severe cases of COVID-19.
“There are people who think, believe that steroids have an effect on their thinking,” Pelosi said, according to someone on the call.
