WASHINGTON, KOMPAS.com – US President-elect Joe Biden plans to issue a series of executive orders, one of which is the lifting of controversial travel bans from several Muslim-majority countries, on his first day in office.
Launching Al jazeera on Sunday (1/17/2021), this was relayed by Biden’s new White House chief of staff Ron Klain in a memo that he circulated.
The new US administration is said to be implementing a series of policy changes implemented by US President Donald Trump during his first 10 days in office.
Some of them are related to the prevention of the new coronavirus, the reincorporation to the Paris agreement on climate change and immigration laws that allow millions of people to obtain citizenship.
Shortly after taking office in 2017, Trump issued an executive order prohibiting tourists from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.
However, the order was modified several times amid lawsuits and its version was confirmed by the Supreme Court in 2018.

Poison of hate
Analysts say the ban could easily be lifted. This is because the regulation was issued with an executive order and an official statement from the president (presidential proclamation).
However, the demands of conservative opponents could delay the process.
Biden said in October as president that he would work with American society to destroy the “poison of hatred” in society. He also promised to respect the contributions and ideas of all citizens.
“My administration will resemble the United States, with American Muslims serving at all levels,” he said.
Other changes include an extension of the deadline related to the pandemic. Namely, related to evictions and student loan payments, the implementation of mask mandates on federal property, and international travel.

Biden plans to propose new laws to provide naturalization for the 11 million undocumented people currently living in the country.
In his first 100 days in office, he also promised to vaccinate 100 million people.
Biden previously announced that he would pressure Congress to pass a $ 1.9 billion stimulus package to address the economic recession caused by the coronavirus.
