Mauricio Pochettino takes over from Thomas Tuchel who was fired.
Paris Saint-Germain has finally announced the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as a new manager to replace Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel was surprisingly thrown out of his position on Christmas Eve after leading the team to shave Strasbourg 4-0 in France’s final Ligue 1 match before winter break.
The name Pochettino, who played for PSG between 2001 and 2003, immediately emerged as the favorite for PSG’s new patron after Tuchel’s dismissal, and his return to Parc des Princes is now confirmed.
The former architect of Espanyol, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur has signed a contract until 2022 to train Neymar et al.
“I am very happy and honored,” Pochettino said. “I want to thank the club’s management for their confidence.”
“As you know, this club has always had a special place in my heart. I have good memories. Today I returned to the club with great ambition and humility.”
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, PSG President and CEO, stated: “We are very happy to welcome Mauricio Pochettino as coach of the first team. I am proud to see our former captain return to Paris Saint-Germain, because this club continues being your home forever. “
“Mauricio’s return fits in perfectly with our ambitions and will be another exciting chapter for the club and I’m sure the fans will enjoy it.”
“With the appointment of Pochettino, Paris Saint-Germain is committed to continuing to build and improve the club for many years to come.”
