The ornamental plant Rhaphidophora tetrasperma was purchased by a buyer in New Zealand for US $ 5,300 or the equivalent of Rp. 76,850,000 (exchange rate of Rp. 14,500 / US $). This made the plant the most expensive disk.

With the launch of the New York Post on Wednesday (2/8/2020), the plant that broke the record for the most expensive price is quite rare. This plant is also commonly called “Mini Monstera” due to its resemblance to the species of the same name.

The plant, native to Southeast Asia, has only four leaves. Therefore, it can be concluded that the price per sheet is around US $ 1,325.

New Zealand-based auction website Trade Me reported an increase in interest based on searches for the Monstera plant. Between the end of May and the beginning of June, they analyzed more than 33,000 searches for the variety, and 10,000 specifically searched for Monsteras variegated.

“A plant will grow leaves that look a little different, because they don’t have chlorophyll,” Jesse Waldman, director of marketing and e-commerce at Pistils Nursery in Portland, Oregon, told Vice.

And unfortunately, mutations are only temporary for some people. Many plants return to their original green form after propagation.

“If you cut it and multiply it, you can wait [tanaman variegated Monsteras] it continues to develop, but such mutations are not very stable, “Waldman said.

“Many plants will revert to their deep green form, which is a factor that makes them a bit more difficult to produce in large quantities,” he said.

Trade Me recently saw “compact” Hoya carnosa selling for around $ 4,200 in June, and Monstera aurea in a light green highlight was selling for over $ 3,700.

“Since mid-March, we’ve seen a tremendous increase in online sales, particularly of flowering plants,” Eliza Blank, founder of online plant marketer Sill, told The Post in April.
