Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Ulema Council of Indonesia (MUI) The center plans to hold the X National Congress (Munas) from Wednesday 25 to 27 November 2020. One of the main agendas of the Congress is to determine a new administration to replace the previous one, the solemn period 2015-2020.

Currently MUI’s leadership is still maintained Ma’ruf Amin as president he is inactive. He is currently inactive because he is currently the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the period 2019-2024.

At the National Conference, ranks of the names of famous Indonesian ulama began to appear in the MUI general president candidate market for 2020-2025.

MUI President and Chairman of the MUI X Munas Steering Committee (SC) Abdullah Jaidi revealed that several names who had the opportunity to become the head of the MUI came from ulama with various backgrounds.

From experienced UN scholars, he said, there are names from Miftachul Akhyar to Nasaruddin Umar.

“Don’t rule out the possibility, Mr. Nasaruddin Umar is now in Wantim [Dewan Pertimbangan] MUI. From the background, the UN also mentioned the names of Miftakhul Akhyar and Professor Nasaruddin earlier, “said Abdullah. CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (11/23) night.

Miftachul Akhyar is currently serving as PBNU’s Rais Aam since 2018. The manager of the Miftachus Sunnah Islamic boarding school, Surabaya, replaced Ma’ruf Amin’s position as PBNU’s Rais Aam after being nominated as a candidate for vice president in 2018. Meanwhile, Nasaruddin Umar, who was the General Director of Guidance for the Islamic Community and Vice Minister of Religion, still serves as Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque.

Not only from NU, Abdullah Jaidi also revealed that there are academics with Muhammadiyah backgrounds, such as MUI Vice President General Muhyiddin Junaidi and MUI Secretary General Anwar Abbas. Both remain active as MUI Central Administrators in their respective positions to this day.

“From Muhammadiyah there is also the name Syafig Mugni, this is still groping, open, perhaps [jadi kandidat Ketum],” he said.

However, Abdullah Jaidi emphasized that all these names were still limited to the possibilities. This is because PBNU and PP Muhammadiyah have not officially nominated one of their best cadres to run for the MUI Ketum candidate.

According to him, the best cadres nominated by the two largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia have an equal chance of serving as candidates for the MUI Ketum 2020-2025.

“So far, no nominations or proposals have been submitted to MUI, nor those proposed by PBNU or PP Muhammadiyah. [Ketumnya] later from Muhammadiyah, it could be from the PBNU element, it could be, “said Abdullah Jaidi.

Abdullah Jaidi explained that the election for the general president of the MUI at the X National Conference will be held collectively and collegially. Subsequently, the election for the General Presidency of the MUI will be determined by a training team whose members represent various elements of society and are selected through the applicable mechanism.

Typically, he said, training team members were selected based on regional MUI representatives, representatives of Islamic organizations, various former central MUI missionary members, and academics.

“For the 2015 Surabaya National Conference there were 17 formats, they were the ones who elected the President of MUI,” said Abdullah Jaidi.

Munas MUI Surabaya 2015 named Ma’ruf Amin as Ketum MUI and Din Syamsuddin as Ketum Dewan Pertimbangan MUI.

After the election of the final MUI General President, Abdullah Jaidi continued, the training team and the General President together did a new management for the MUI Leadership Council and the MUI Advisory Council. The names that fill the management are arranged collectively.

“So the formation team along with Ketum was chosen to compose [pengurus] MUI leadership council, there are 22 people. The 22 people were chosen by the formatur team and the selected ketum. There is also the MUI advisory council, there are 7 people, ”he said.

Likewise, the president of the Da’wah Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), M Cholil Nafis, admitted that the names of the ulama circulating in the community are candidates for president of MUI.

“Yes, that’s what was circulating like that,” Cholil said Monday night.

Cholil assessed that all candidates who fill the market for general president candidates at the next MUI National Conference have the same opportunity. He predicts that the election for MUI president will be very dynamic.

“Usually if there are elections, they don’t like each other. It’s not like an election. So just dynamic. We are Islamic organizations, so we both know which ones are appropriate and which ones are not,” Cholil said.

On the other hand, MUI General Secretary Anwar Abbas stated that he did not know whether his name was listed as a candidate for MUI General President. Personally, he also admitted that he was wondering who nominated him to enter the Ketum candidate market.

“Who proposed me? I don’t know yet. Besides, the candidates don’t know. The presidential election knows, if not,” said Anwar, who is also known as one of the PP Muhammadiyah field chiefs.

The MUI X Munas is scheduled to take place over three days at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, from November 25 to 27, 2020.

MUI Vice President Muhyiddin Junaidi said that the birth of new faces in MUI management was possible for the period 2020-2025.

“And maybe there will be changes in terms of position and so forth, there may be a change in MUI leadership from 2015-2020, and 2020-2025, God willing, there will be new faces,” he said yesterday.

Since its inception in the mid-1970s, seven figures have headed the MUI as president general. Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah or better known as Buya Hamka was the first general president of the MUI who served from 1975 to 1981.

Of the seven people, the presidents general came from Muhammadiyah and NU, which are two of the main religious organizations in Indonesia. The general president of MUI before Ma’ruf was Din Syamsuddin, who was still the head of PP Muhammadiyah at that time. Din officially became president of the MUI in February 2014 replacing Sahal Mahfudz, who died.

The late Sahal, also known as the NU Kiai himself, was elected three times at the MUI National Conference to become President General, that is, in 2000, 2005 and 2010.
