A 37th MTQ participant in North Sumatra (North Sumatra) chose to be disqualified because he was reluctant to remove his veil while performing. Participants in the North Labuhanbatu caravan were persuaded to reappear, but they refused.

“The person in question did not return. We persuaded him to return, we convinced the caravan to return, he did not want to come,” the 37th MTQ North Sumatra Palid Muda Harahap Executive Director told reporters on Wednesday (9/9 / 2020).

She said the contestant returned to Medan after choosing to be disqualified because she was reluctant to remove her veil. She said that the North Labuhanbatu caravan had tried to invite participants to participate again in the North Sumatra MTQ held in Tebing Tinggi.

“It is a caravan from North Labuhanbatu, he is returning to Medan. We will call another caravan, please persuade him to convince him to return, he does not want it anymore,” he said.

Palid emphasized that there was no ban on veiling participants at the 37th MTQ in North Sumatra. She said that although there is a national need to remove the veil when acting, this is not done in North Sumatra.

“Actually, we do not prohibit the appearance of the veiled, there is nothing,” he said.

He said that North Sumatra MTQ participants who wore the veil first would be reviewed by a board of judges. This is done to match the face in the photo to the person it appears to be to avoid cheating.

“We have to assign the female jury to examine the evening in a closed room. We will match your face to the photo when you check in,” he said.

Previously, in a viral video on one of the YouTube accounts, a woman dressed in black with a veil climbs into a cubicle to read the Koran. When it was about to begin, the woman was asked to open the veil.

“Please remove your veil so you know what to read. It is a national norm, if it is not opened, it will immediately be disqualified ”, someone told the woman in the video.

The lady says: keep the veil. As this was not allowed, the woman got up and left the room where she was reading the Qur’an. At that moment, the male voice in the video reminded her that removing the veil was a national regulation.

“National regulations. It has been implemented since last year at TSQ Pontianak,” said the male voice.

Palid said the incident was a misunderstanding. According to him, the board of judges on duty at that time came from the center, so this time there was a misunderstanding about the adjustment of the veil regulation in MTQ North Sumatra.

“Unveiling the veil in anticipation of fraud is implemented nationwide. However, in North Sumatra we made adjustments to the provisions before appearing. We checked it first. The incident at the time was purely a misunderstanding because at the time the board of judges on duty was coming from the center, “Palid said. written statement.
