Jakarta –
Valentino Rossi is still eager to appear in European MotoGP this weekend. Yamaha also began preparing a replacement driver for The Doctor.
Rossi has been absent from the two 2020 MotoGP race series due to being infected with COVID-19. Pia from Italy has not appeared in MotoGP Aragón and MotoGP Teruel, so her chances of becoming world champion this season are practically closed.
The 41-year-old needs two negative tests in a row to get the green light to get back on track. Unfortunately, as of Tuesday (03/11/2020), Rossi’s test was still positive.
“I feel healthy and I can’t wait to join my team and go back to racing. Hopefully the PCR test results are negative, because skipping two races seems like too much,” Rossi said, quoted on the official MotoGP website.
In fact, the opportunity for Valentino Rossi to appear in the European MotoGP is not yet closed. The condition is that you should get a negative test result on Wednesday (11/4) and Thursday (11/5) local time.
Still, there wasn’t much time left. Yamaha doesn’t want to let Maverick Vinales race alone without a tandem like in the last two series. The Japanese manufacturer has finally taken early steps.
If Rossi is still not negative for COVID-19 until the specified time, then he will be replaced by another runner. Not Jorge Lorenzo, who is a Yamaha test rider, but a rider from the United States, Garrett Gerloff.
Gerloff is a rider for the GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Junior Team, which this season is competing in the World Superbike Championship (WSBK). At WSBK 2020, the 25-year-old finished 11th in the drivers’ standings with 103 points.

“I’m sorry for him (Rossi), I hope he gets better soon. We all miss number 46 on the track!” Gerloff said.
“If I finally come down this weekend, it will be an uphill battle because I don’t understand the bike, the tires, the brakes, etc. I have never raced in Valencia before. But I am confident and ready to face challenges,” he explained.
The European MotoGP 2020 will take place at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, Valencia, on Sunday (11/8/2020), and can be seen on Trans 7 and detikSport.
