Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government has issued a relaxation of the luxury goods sales tax (PPnBM) for the automotive sector for 2021, starting early next month. If buying a new car is tax free, what will be the impact on used car sales?

Fahmi, owner of the Nava Sukses car showroom in Fatmawati, South Jakarta, said the policy adopted by the government has had a negative and positive impact on used car sales.

The negative impact is that there will be a discount on the sale of used cars. However, according to him, it will not be significant, because this policy is only temporary.

“The downside is definitely a reduction in the sale price of cars, but certainly not too significant, considering that the policy is also temporary and the stock of new car units is not too much,” he told CNBC Indonesia on Friday. the night (02/12/2021)

According to him, the average used car showroom since late last year has been busy with buyers. However, there are obstacles to obtaining the merchandise.

“By the way, the average second car showroom has been busy since the end of the year, but we are having trouble finding the unit,” he explained.

He also said that the positive impact is that it will be easier to get stock cars. This is because people will switch to buying a new car.

“The positive is that the stock of second-hand cars will be higher, if many people replace their cars with new ones,” he explained.

He explained that the shortage of used cars in showrooms and the prices that have been rising in recent times is also due to the drop in sales of new cars.

“The shortage and the increase in used car prices are also due to the drop in new car sales, so the supply of demand for used cars has also been affected,” he explained.

Earlier, the coordinating minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, said that the relaxation would take place gradually. It is proposed to relax the PPnBM throughout 2021, with a scenario of 0% PPnBM (March-May), 50% PPnBM (June-August) and 25% (September-November).

With the PPnBM relaxation scenario carried out in stages, it is estimated that there may be an increase in production that will reach 81,752 units.

With this relaxation, the estimated additional production from the auto industry will be able to contribute to state revenues of 1.4 trillion IDR.

“This policy will also affect state revenue, which is forecast to have a revenue surplus of Rs 1.62 trillion,” the coordinating minister of Airlangga said.
