An Indonesian man caused a stir in the Hollywood world after committing fraud of up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. The man nicknamed the ‘Queen of Hollywood Con artists’ was arrested in England.
Reported AFPOn Friday (4/12/2020) the man was arrested after years of being pursued by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, the FBI. He was identified in the court indictment opened Thursday as Hargobind Tahilramani, a 41-year-old Indonesian man.
“The defendant has been arrested in Britain based on a request for temporary arrest submitted by the United States with the intention of extraditing him,” said an FBI spokesman in San Diego, California. AFP.
As reported by the BBC, he allegedly defrauded more than $ 1 million from his victims. One of the voices he has imitated is the high-pitched voice of ex-wife Rupert Murdoch media mogul Wendi Deng in an attempt to deceive.
Victims were approached with lucrative show business job offers and instructed to travel to Indonesia to perform tasks that included site searches, investigation and set-up, according to court documents filed in California.
Tahilramani “will use a fake accent and change her voice to sound like a woman,” the document says.
Upon arrival, the victims were allegedly tricked into obtaining US currency at all times by Tahilramani and her co-conspirators, with the promised film project being completely fictitious, and their expenses were never reimbursed.
If the target complained or expressed doubts, Tahilramani sometimes threatened to “cut” the victim, according to the document.
