New Findings: Corona Virus Mutations Weaken More and More

Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – Scientists in Arizona, United States, discovered that a new mutation in the corona virus SARS-CoV-2 that caused the Covid-19 pandemic showed a weakening.

As the virus continues to spread rapidly and infect millions of people worldwide, scientists continue to research the virus for useful information.

Researchers from Arizona State University stated that the mutations they found could change the course of the plague that had better hopes.

The mutation was reported to be similar to the changes found in the 2003 SARS virus, meaning it is less likely to cross the immune system.

Former director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Cancer Program, Karol Sikora, wrote on his personal Twitter account indicating the findings of the Arizona researchers.

“Scientists in Arizona have detected mutations in samples of the new corona virus. Don’t worry, the virus has lost some of its potential,” he wrote on Twitter @ProfKarolSikora.

“When this happens in the SARS outbreak, it marks the beginning of the end. Warning, this is just a sample, we need to see if we can find it elsewhere,” he continued.

In an Express report, on Wednesday (6/5) researchers from Arizona State University took 382 samples from patients with coronavirus in their state, and found that one sample had largely lost its genetic material.

They claim that this missing part weakens the infection and is an early sign that this outbreak of the corona virus will be theirs.

Although only one patient in Arizona has been found with the virus mutation, the researchers say that if genome sequencing becomes more common, similar cases are more likely to arise.

They reported that the new corona virus compared 30,000 hurricane ribonucleic acid (RNA) and in the samples found, 81 letters had been lost.

“These proteins are not only there to be mimicked, they are there to help increase virulence and suppress the immune system. It develops in a weaker form in the final phase of a pandemic,” said Efrem Lim, head of related research.

This news is good news for world expectations in the face of the Covid-19 virus pandemic. To date, the virus has infected more than 3.7 million people and has killed more than 250,000 people worldwide.
