REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Several Arab countries have condemned France’s insult to Islam and the Prophet Muhammad. Because the insults that are made continuously can unleash hatred in the world community.

As is well known, in recent weeks French President Emmanuel Macron has attacked Islam and the Muslim community, accusing Muslims of “separatism” and describing Islam as a religion undergoing a global crisis.

This coincided with a provocative move by Charlie Hebdo, a left-wing French magazine known for publishing anti-Islamic cartoons, which have caused outrage throughout the Muslim world. The cartoon was first published in 2006 by a Danish newspaper. Jylllands Posten, which sparked a wave of protests.

In a statement, the secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Nayef al-Hajraf, described Macron’s declaration against Islam as irresponsible and has spread a culture of hatred among the people.

“(French statements) like that come at a time when efforts are being made to increase tolerance and dialogue between cultures and religions,” al-Hajraf said on the official website. Anadolu Agency, Sunday (10/25).

Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Dhaifallah Fayez also voiced her country’s criticism of the reissue of the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. Charlie Hebdo on claims of freedom of expression.

“Such practices hurt the sentiment of approximately 2 billion Muslims and constitute an attack on symbols of religion, belief and holiness,” he said, warning that such practices fuel a culture of extremism and violence.

Aside from Jordan, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry has also expressed frustration over the reissue of anti-prophet cartoons in France.

In a statement, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry warned that this insult would ignite a spirit of hatred, violence and hostility. “And it will endanger the efforts of the international community to spread a culture of tolerance and peace among the peoples of the world,” he explained.
