Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Anti-coup demonstrations in Myanmar continue to occur for nine consecutive days. The army reportedly even dropped armored tanks at night in Myanmar cities such as Yangon, Myiiykyina and Sittwe on Sunday (2/13/2021) local time.

Launch ReutersThis is the first military mobilization in the country after the February 1 coup. After the military siege, at midnight, Myanmar residents reported internet and telecommunications outages that were inaccessible as of early Monday (2/14/2021).

Soldiers also reportedly surrounded Yangon International Airport at night. One pilot, who requested anonymity, said the military “attacked” an attack by hundreds of employees at the aviation department since Thursday.

Previously, on February 8, many staff members of the Department of Civil Aviation went on strike. This causes delays in international flights.

As a result, four air traffic controllers were detained and their reports have been unknown since. Trains in some parts of Myanmar also stopped running after workers refused to leave.

The military is also said to have deployed troops to a power plant in Kachin city, Myitkyina region. Workers at the power plant reportedly gathered together and chased away the soldiers who they assumed wanted to cut the electricity at the plant.

The army is said to want to block mass protests started through social media. In one video, it is even shown that the military opened fire on the crowd to disperse the protesters, although it was unclear whether they used rubber bullets or sharp bullets.

The board has ordered all striking citizens to return to work or take action. Mass arrests are reported every night where last Saturday the military was given great powers to detain and search the private property of those deemed deserters.

Several countries have asked the military and security forces to exercise restraint. “Refrain from violence against protesters and civilians protesting the overthrow of the legitimate government,” Europe, Britain, Canada and 11 other countries said in a statement.

This nightly military movement led the US embassy to also urge Americans to seek refuge in the country’s cities, especially Yangon. Telecommunications outage can occur between 1:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

“The internet shutdown on #Myanmar is now in effect again on all major carriers, reported until 9:00 am,” Facebook’s product policy manager for human rights (HAM) and freedom of expression said, Alex Warofka, in a post on Twitter after the Internet in Myanmar dies.

“May everyone stay safe tonight amid dire reports of military activity.”

Two weeks ago, Myanmar’s de facto leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, staged a coup. He was detained by the army after the army accused the election of his party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), as fraudulent.
