Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Central leaders (PP) Muhammadiyah criticized the involvement of the Indonesian National Army (TNI) in handling post-incident confrontations between members of the National Police and supporters of the Islamic Defenders Front (REIT) that happened on Monday (12/7).

“I regret the participation of Pangdam Jaya in the process of explaining the death of 6 FPI members by the police, this reinforces the accusation that TNI was involved in the handling of criminal investigations,” said PP President Muhammadiyah for Legal Affairs and Human Rights, Busyro Muqoddas, in a written statement, Tuesday (12/8)).

He said TNI should not get involved in handling this case, because it is not included in the primary duties and functions of this law enforcement agency.

Busyro also encouraged this case to be fully and transparently investigated by an independent team – which, according to him, should be made up of President Joko Widodo – and Komnas HAM.

He emphasized that the public has the right to obtain all the information on all the processes carried out by the police and related parties in the investigation of this case.
