Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Covid-19 pandemic caused the State Budgets (APBN) to experience a significant increase in the deficit. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Indonesian government inevitably has to cover the deficit with debt.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has her own response to respond to people who like to offend or “tease” her about the current state debt.

As is known, before the Covid-19 pandemic devastated the Indonesian economy, the government set an APBN deficit target of 1.76% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). However, then, all budgets were reoriented or prioritized to manage covid-19 and provide stimulus to the health sector, MSMEs, social protection, the business world.
The government through Perppu No 1 of 2020, which has now become Law No 2 of 2020, has decided to increase the deficit to 6.34% of GDP or the equivalent of Rp. 1,039.2 trillion.
“The deficit was 1.76 per cent of GDP, or about 120 trillion rupees to 130 trillion rupees. Our deficit has increased to 1,000 trillion rupees,” he said.
