Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Vice President of the Popular Consultative Assembly (MPR) RI Lestari Moerdijat evaluates the steps TNI in helping the provincial government of DKI Jakarta to curb banners and billboards Rizieq Shihab billboards who broke the rules.

“The state must be present to solve the problems faced by its citizens. On the other hand, citizens also have an obligation to comply with existing regulations,” Lestari said in a written statement, in Jakarta on Sunday (11/22) .

According to him, the 1945 Constitution guarantees fair legal security and equal treatment before the law for its citizens.

Lestari explained, if there is a person or a group of people who break the law, then the state instrument as an extension of the state has the right to discipline.

Disagreement over who has the right to impose restrictions on an area, he said, should not weaken the efforts of the regional government, which is an extension of the state’s arm.

The regional government is an extension of the hand of the state, he continued, and the state assistance mechanism for the regions in various sectors is regulated by law.

In the context of TNI’s involvement in assisting the regional government, the NasDem Party legislator explained, it is also regulated in Law No. 34 of 2004 on the Indonesian National Army.

“So what the TNI apparatus has done to help the provincial government of DKI to control the posters and billboards that violate the rules in the capital is an act in accordance with applicable law,” said Rerie, his nickname.

Aside from that, Rerie expects both parties, namely the government and society, to be prudent in responding to current conditions.

The government, both central and regional, must be consistent in enforcing regulations, he said, while the community must be able to get used to complying with current rules.

The incident of removing Rizieq Shihab billboards that did not comply with regulations received a response from the FPI.

The general secretary of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Munarman said that all parties understood the actor behind the removal of the Rizieq Shihab billboard by TNI.

Previously, a viral video of people in striped uniforms took down billboards with the FPI leadership on it. Pangdam Jaya, Major General Dudung Abdurachman, also admitted that he ordered the action because it violated installation regulations.

Munarman explained that Law 34 of 2004 establishes that TNI only has duties for war operations and non-war military operations (OMSP).
