Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Nadiem Makarim will allow face-to-face schools from January 2021 as long as they meet the specified conditions. This was broadcast at a digital press conference on Friday (11/20/2020).

Nobodym Makarim revealed that the determination of face-to-face school permits will no longer be based on the Covid-19 risk zone but on the authority of the local government, the Regional Offices (Kanwil) and the Ministry of Religion.

“Today’s government is making adjustments to the policy to authorize local governments, Kanwil or the Ministry of Religion to determine face-to-face permits for the schools under their authority. This policy will take effect in January 2021,” he said at a conference cited by the YouTube channel of the Ministry of Education and Culture, on Friday. (11/20/2020).

Nobody added that opening schools or face-to-face meetings requires the permission of three parties. That is, the local government, the school principals and the parents through the school committee.

“If these three parties do not allow the school to open, the school cannot open. If all three parties agree, the school can be carried out face to face,” Nobody explained Makarim.

“If schools are opened, parents can still make the decision not to allow children not to go to face-to-face school. So the last right is for the parents. Face-to-face schools are allowed, they are not compulsory.

Nobody added that if schools want to have face-to-face meetings, they must meet strict requirements, such as being prepared to carry out health protocols and other health systems.
