Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) highlighted the arrest of Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo in the case of suspected bribery for export of fingerlings. ICW hinted that the KPK could stop bribery at the ministerial level compared to DPR Harun Masiku, whose whereabouts are still unknown.

“In this context, ICW also questioned why actors at the ministerial level could be arrested by the KPK, while Harun Masiku could not. ICW believes that the factor behind this is the reluctance of the Compliance Officer to evaluate the group’s team of work, “ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana said in a written press release. Thursday (11/26/2020).

Kurnia suggested that the KPK leadership disband the task force team to pursue Harun Masiku. Otherwise, Kurnia said, public suspicions would arise that Harun Masiku was suspected of being internally protected by the KPK.

“For this reason, it would be best if the KPK leadership immediately disbanded Harun Masiku’s task force and then replaced it with a team that has proven successful in arresting three fugitives like Nurhadi, Hiendra and Rezky. Not just fugitives, he The team also arrested Edhy Prabowo. If this is not done, then it is reasonable to suspect that there are parties within the KPK who wish to protect Harun Masiku, “he said.

Kurnia reminded the KPK not to get caught up in the euphoria of arresting the minister that has become the public’s attention. This is because, Kurnia said, the KPK still has a task (PR) to catch the fugitives who have been missing since last January.

However, ICW appreciates the performance of the KPK for having arrested the KKP Minister Edhy Prabowo. However, Kurnia said, the status of the Corruption Eradication Commission still declined dramatically, especially in relation to the harsh prosecution process.

“Basically ICW appreciates the actions of the KPK investigators who can ultimately arrest the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Edhy Prabowo. However, this legal process does not simply mean that the condition of the KPK remains the usual. Because, since the promulgation of Law 19/2019, the KPK has been practically processed decreased drastically, “he said.

“Apart from the difference in vision between the KPK leaders, another issue is also related to the prosecution process which has been slowed down due to the existence of the Supervisory Council,” he added.
