Menpora Cup 2021 Standings: Persija wins Group B

Group B Menpora Cup 2021 closed dramatically. Persija Jakarta to return beat Bhayangkara FC. Kemayoran Tigers to the quarterfinals after PSM Makassar.

PSM became the first team from Group B to advance to the quarterfinals. This was confirmed after they drew 2-2 with Borneo FC at Kanjurahan Stadium, Malang Regency, on Wednesday (3/31/2021) WIB afternoon.

In the last match of Group B, Juku Eja was able to lead two goals ahead of Saldy and Zulham Zamrun. Borneo FC then rose to equalize with a penalty from Guy Junior and a goal from Rifal Lastori.

After the Borneo vs PSM match, there was a life and death duel between Persija vs Bhayangkara FC. Persija must win, while The Guardians only need a draw for the top 8.

It looks like Bhayangkara’s advance to the quarterfinals will be smooth when they can take the lead through Ezechiel N’Douassel. However, Persija rose dramatically in the second half.

They scored two goals through Osvaldo Haay and Marc Klok. Persija closed the match with a 2-1 victory.

The three additional points led Persija to become the winner of Group B with six points. They managed to advance to the quarterfinals after PSM.

PSM, which accumulated five points, fell to second place. Meanwhile, Bhayangkara FC must be willing to be eliminated from the 2021 Menpora Cup.

The Guardians finished their journey in Group B in third place. Paul Munster’s men have four points. They are three points ahead of Borneo FC at the bottom of the standings who only won one point.

In the quarterfinals, Persija will be measured runner-up Group A is Barito Putera. PSM with status as runner-up Group B faces the winner of Group A PSIS Semarang.
