Jakarta –
The Indonesian government criticized the attitude of French President Emmanuel Macron in allowing the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Critics were viewed by various parties as the correct step.
Member of the I DPR RI Commission of the PDIP faction, Major General TNI (Ret.) Tb Hasanuddin agreed with the government’s firm stance on Macron.
“The action of the government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is correct. Do not use freedom of opinion to insult other religions,” Hasanuddin said in his statement on Wednesday (10/28/2020).
According to him, the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad SAW was a form of insult. He predicted that this action could threaten world peace.
“This warning from the government must be heeded not only by the French people but also by the international community,” Hasanuddin said.
The same was also relayed by a member of the I DPR RI Commission of the PPP faction, Syaifullah Tamliha. Syaifullah also appreciated the government’s decision to criticize Macron.
“So Indonesia’s attitude as a country with the Pancasila ideology through Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi is correct,” said Tamliha.
Tamliha said that Macron had to understand very well that believing in the Prophet Muhammad was one of the pillars of the Muslim faith. So that criticizing the prophet Muhammad ignites the emotions of the Muslim community.
“Macron’s attitude that he will continue to publish cartoons or cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad will in no way reduce the dignity of the Prophet Muhammad, who is rahmatan lil alamin,” he said.
As is known, criticism rained down on France and President Emmanuel Macron after French authorities asserted their right to publish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. This attitude was still passed on even though they knew it would offend Muslims.
The problem resurfaced after a teacher in France was beheaded for showing a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad in one of his classes when it came to freedom of expression.
Macron’s controversial comments while addressing the tribute to the French teacher, sparked criticism and calls for a boycott of French products. In his speech, Macron swore that France “will not stop the cartoon (caricatured)” and called the murdered teacher “because the Islamists want our future.” Macron also declared war on “Islamic separatism”, which he believes has taken over several Muslim communities in France.
Indonesia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) criticized the attitude of French President Emmanuel Macron that would allow the publication of cartoons of the prophet Muhammad SAW. Indonesia has also written and summoned the French ambassador to Indonesia, but the call has yet to be answered.
