Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

The fifth president of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati soekarnoputri asked the Minister of Education and Culture Nobody Makarim correct the historical record of the 1965 incident.

Mega considered that something was missing in the historical record of Indonesia, especially in the period of 1965. He said that there was a political desukarnoization that had started since President Soeharto.

“I spoke with Pak Nadiem because he is the Minister of Education and Culture. What should I do? Is this not allowed to be taught?” Megawati said in a virtual discussion on the Balai Kirti Kepresidenan Museum YouTube account, Tuesday (11/24).

“There is this queen, there is this king, but in ’65 I think history is cut off, it splices and this is erased,” he added.

Megawati recalled the greatness of Sukarno as the proclaimer of Indonesian independence. Sukarno was also the initiator of the Asian-African Conference, a forum for countries fighting for their respective independence at the time.

However, Sukarno’s history, Mega said, was erased during the New Order era. He called the political elite a broken tongue, everyone was afraid to call Sukarno a proclaimer.

The PDIP president general asked Nadiem to review the history taught in schools. Mega hopes that there will be a historical rectification on Sukarno and the incident of 65.

“I just ask that you not realign (the story of) a person who can liberate this nation.” Mega said.

Mega also asked Nadiem what the Indonesian nation wanted to be. Will Indonesia have its own version of history, Mega said.

“Come on Pak Nadiem, I will mention you because the responsibility of educating the sons and daughters of the Indonesian nation is heavy,” he said.

Bung Karno Curriculum

Megawati also suggested that Nadiem include Sukarno’s books in the Indonesian education curriculum.

Megawati assessed that Bung Karno was a broad-sighted figure because he used to read books. Bung Karno wrote the reading results in the books he wrote.

“What a shame I mean, of the thoughts that Bung Karno has absorbed, that it should be, in my opinion, Pak Nadiem, it should be part of the curriculum,” Megawati said.

Megawati said that Bung Karno’s thoughts were forgotten during the New Order era. At that time, there was a system that he called the policy of desukarnoization.

“People were afraid to talk about Sukarno,” Megawati said. In fact, the circulation of Bung Karno’s books was banned.

“How is it that there is a system formation that does, I apologize, how to sterilize our intellectual circles, so that they do not dare, until the books are hidden,” Megawati said.

But things are different now. Megawati believes that people are currently discovering what Sukarno was like. Therefore, he suggested that Bung Karno’s thoughts be included in the curriculum.

“Do we want to imitate or not? That is the problem, the big problem, the big question and the great answer is Mr. Nobody,” he said.
