KOMPAS.com – Discussions on the topic of “rapid antigen” and “hyssop antigen” were busy on social media on Thursday (12/17/2020).
This issue is related to the new government regulation regarding mandatory rapid antigen testing requirements for those to and from DKI Jakarta and Bali.
Based on Circular number 2021 of 2020 on the implementation of community activities during the Christmas holidays and welcoming the new year 2021 in the new era of life in the province of Bali, it is established that those who travel by private vehicle must show a certificate of negative rapid antigen test results. no later than 2 x 24 hours before departure.
Furthermore, the coordinating minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said that this rule was enforced to anticipate an increase in cases during the 2021 Christmas and New Year holidays.

“Also, the name is quick swab antigen. Omo“said the Twitter account @fauziah_uzii in its tweet.
“Just now from the station the intention was to be fast, but the officer said that from January 18 to 8, the gbs use rapid results, they must be rapid antigen or PCR results,“wrote the Twitter account @dramakuy in his tweet.

“Today, the corona test is again, for the sixth time (1x rapid test, 2x PCR swab test, 3x rapid -swab-antigen- swab test). Alhamdulillah all negative and non-reactive. If there is an opportunity, time and more fortune, I recommend my friends to try the hyssop antigen,“wrote the Twitter account @constantane.

So is “rapid antigen” the same as “hyssop antigen”?
In response to this, Adam Prabata, a general practitioner and PhD candidate in Medical Sciences at Kobe University, said that “hyssop antigen” and “rapid antigen” have the same term.
“It means the same thing,” Adam said when contacted. Kompas.com, Thursday (12/17/2020) night.
As for the rapid antigen test as a travel requirement, he considered it quite appropriate.
A number of companies are known to have previously implemented rapid antibody testing requirements for the public prior to travel using land and air modes of transportation.
“The decision to use an antigen swab or rapid antigen as a substitute for rapid antibody testing for travel conditions is a fairly precise decision,” he added.

What is a rapid antigen test?
Because it’s an unfamiliar term to many people, Adam explained, the rapid antigen test is a test for the corona virus by detecting viral proteins (antigens).
Unlike the rapid antibody test, this rapid antigen is examined with a nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swab, similar to PCR.
The goal is to transmit the virus to mucus samples taken from the nose or throat.

“This rapid antigen works, initially detecting a large amount of viral protein (antigen), then antibodies on a rapid test tool. Then it produces a positive signal for the rapid antigen test,” he said.
Additionally, Adam revealed that it is possible for this rapid antigen to show negative results even though patients can still transmit Covid-19.
This is because the rapid antigen has a maximum sensitivity of 94 percent and a specificity of more than 97 percent.
“The risk of a false negative is high, especially if the viral load is low or before 1-3 days of pre-symptoms and more than 7 days of symptoms appear,” Adam said.

Viral load is a prediction of the amount of virus in the body based on the results of the CT-Value PCR.
If you look at the level of effectiveness, Adam said that the antigen swab period has high precision, almost the same time that a Covid-19 patient is at risk of transmitting it to others.
The high precision antigen swab period occurred after the infectious period or after the 10th day after symptoms.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also recommends rapid antigen tests put on screen Covid-19, especially for patients without symptoms or with suspected contact with Covid-19 patients.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends rapid antigen tests for areas where community transmission is widespread and the PCR test does not exist or the results are slow.
Per PatKLin PDS guidelines, this rapid antigen collection can be performed in laboratories and facilities in negative pressure rooms and open spaces that have considered the safety of the surrounding environment.

It should be noted that the rapid test action of this antigen is performed by personnel trained to use the equipment and minimize the risk of exposure.
“The test results must be supervised and interpreted by a team of experts,” Adam said.
It also reminds the community not to take quick antigens or independently rub antigens in their respective homes.
However, the use of PCR is still preferred because it has a better capacity than the antigen swab.
