KOMPAS.com – Manchester United were deemed sloppy when they brought Donny van de Beek from Ajax Amsterdam into the transfer market this summer.
Previously, Donny van de Beek was redeemed by Manchester United with a tag of 35 million pounds (686 billion rupees).
Van De Beek has the opportunity to become a fundamental pillar in midfield with Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.
Reported by BolaSport since Meter, apparently Manchester United’s purchase of Van De Beek was deemed ridiculous by former Arsenal manager Paul Merson.
Paul Merson even felt he couldn’t stop thinking about Man United’s decision to recruit Van de Beek.
According to him, the purchase of the Dutch player simply calmed Man United fans in the 2020 summer transfer market.

“Donny van de Beek seems panic buying at Manchester United, “said Paul Merson.
“I don’t understand, £ 40m was spent just on positions where they are already strong. How did you play with Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes?” he said.
“The purchase for me was like, ‘Oh, we haven’t bought from anyone yet, let’s buy players, who can we get’?” he said.
In fact, Pogba has been further sidelined due to injuries last season. He returned to playing regularly after the competition was held again after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes only joined the club dubbed the Red Devils in January 2020.
Pogba and Fernandes were joined by Nemanja Matic as Man United’s main midfield at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Paul Merson assessed that the arrival of Van de Beek would reduce Fred and Scoot McTominay’s playing minutes.
“If you look at midfield, Fred is improving and they have Scott McTominay. Now, it will be difficult for them to have more minutes to play,” PPaul Merson said.
Paul Merson’s astonishment didn’t stop there when it was discovered that Man United had just extended Nemanja Matic’s contract.
He feels that the steps taken by Man United in the 2020 summer transfer market don’t make any sense.
“They just extended Nemanja Matic’s contract,” Merson said.
“Would they have done it if they knew they could have Van de Beek? It doesn’t make sense to me, who made this decision?” he said.

Additionally, Paul Merson also commented on Manchester United, who are reportedly still looking at Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
Merson said there would be other “victims” who would “sacrifice” Sancho’s arrival at Old Trafford if Man United actually made the transfer.
“It looks like they picked Jadon Sancho. If they sign Sancho, (Mason) Greenwod won’t play. I feel like they need a center back more,” Merson said. (Eko Isdiyanto)
