Manchester –
Manchester City managed to beat Southampton 5-2. This victory brought the Citizens closer to the Premier League title. Woof!
City host Southampton at Etihad Stadium on Thursday (11/3/2021) WIB early morning. Three points are City’s goal after the loss to Manchester United last weekend.
Because the point difference has been reduced to 11 and City certainly does not want to be chased by these rivals. Stepping on the gas from the opening minutes, City immediately took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute through Kevin De Bruyne before being equalized by a James Ward-Prowse penalty in the 25th minute.
City again took the lead 3-1 thanks to goals from Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Guendogan. In the second half, City raged as they created two more goals through De Bruyne and Mahrez.
City also secured victory with a 5-2 scoreline as it strengthened its position at the top of the standings with 68 points, 14 points ahead of MU in second place in the standings.
With 11 weeks remaining in the Premier League, City are clearly in full control of the title race. Quoted BBC, City are only six victories away, that is, 18 points in the rest of the season to become champions.
However, Pep Guardiola as coach did not want to rush and asked his players to stay focused until the end of the season.
“It is very important that Kevin and Riyad score those goals. We need them. Now is the time to rest and focus on the Fulham game. Take it easy. There are still nine games left. A game like this today is difficult and challenging,” he said Guardiola after the game.
“We won it all in the last 4.5 years because of our effort. Not because the other teams gave in,” he continued.
