jpnn.com, JAKARTA – The Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD emphasized that the government has never cared about the plan of the FPI (Front of Islamic Defenders) Imam Habib Rizieq Shihab to return to Indonesia.
In fact, Mahfud MD said that the Indonesian government had never taken the Habib Rizieq issue seriously.
“No no. Frankly speaking, the government has never specifically discussed it. We (the government, red) don’t take it seriously,” Mahfud MD said when interviewed by Ade Armando, which was broadcast on Cokro’s YouTube channel. TV on Tuesday (3/11).
Mahfud MD said this when Ade Armando asked Mahfud MD for an answer about the plan to return home to Habib Rizieq, who was said to be leading the revolution.
Mahfud MD compared Habib Rizieq to the charismatic leader Ayatollah Khomeini when he returned to Iran after 14 years in exile.
“Because Rizieq Shihab is not Khomeini. If Khomeini wanted to come back from Paris, all his people would welcome him because Khomeini was a holy man. If Rizieq Shihab does not have many followers, yes, compared to Indonesian Muslims in general” said the former president of the Constitutional Court (MK).
Mahfud MD emphasized that the Indonesian government did not address Habib Rizieq’s return plan.
The government, he continued, would not hamper Habib Rizieq’s plan to return to Indonesia, which is scheduled for November 10, 2020.
