Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Paul Pogba reportedly resigned from the French national team as a form of disappointment with President Emmanuel Macron’s controversial statement.
Republica reported that Pogba decided to resign from the French team shortly after President Macron said that Islamic terrorism crimes must be dealt with firmly.
Macron’s comments came in response to the beheading case of Samuel Paty, a teacher who was assassinated after showing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad to his students.
A total of seven people were charged in connection with the death of Paty, who works as a history teacher.

Macron’s statement sparked reactions from various Muslim figures around the world, including Pogba. The Manchester United midfielder is known as a devout Muslim.
French media reported that the midfielder who helped Les Bleus win the 2018 World Cup decided to resign from the national team as a form of anger over Macron’s statement.
However, so far neither Pogba nor the French Football Federation have confirmed the news.
