Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments (Marves), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, instructed DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to tighten large-scale social restrictions (PSBB).
Coordinating Minister Luhut was previously appointed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), to participate in helping to control the Covid-19 outbreak by overseeing several provinces, one of which is DKI Jakarta.
The attitude of the central government was conveyed by Luhut yesterday at the Covid-19 Management Coordination Meeting in DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java and Bali virtually at the Maritime Office. Luhut asked Anies Baswedan to toughen the work-from-home policy (Work from home) up to 75%
These instructions arrive at the end of the year. Earlier, as an effort to stop the exodus of DKI Jakarta people abroad, the central government decided to ‘circumcise’ the long three-day year-end holiday period.
The end of the year holidays are set from December 24 to 27 to commemorate Christmas. From December 28 to 30, no holidays are determined. Meanwhile, year-end holidays are set on December 31 and January 1, 2021.
This hardening instruction from the PSBB further confirms that the government wants to ensure that there is no mass mobility of people outside the capital and other cities. It is clear that the central government wants people to take vacations by staying at home and with limited mobility both in terms of area and time.
Reflecting on the end of last October during the week-long vacation, hundreds of thousands of cars left DKI Jakarta with most of them heading to Central Java. After the rampant action to return home in late October, the cases of Covid-19 infection in Indonesia increased significantly and often set records.
It only took 2-4 weeks after the long vacation period that the national daily Covid-19 cases broke a record at 5,000. In fact, in one day the highest record broke 8,369 cases.
Apart from the problem of data synchronization between the center and the regions, this growing trend continues to be worrisome. Additionally, DKI Jakarta and Central Java contributed to a very high increase in daily cases and deaths at that time. Sadly, the duo of DKI Jakarta Governor and Lieutenant Governor Anies-Riza also tested positive for Covid-19.
The trend of increasing the number of tests performed is also increasing daily cases. The national rate of positive cases is still above 10%. This means that out of every 100 people tested, 10 are found to be positive for Covid-19. This indicates that the amount of Covid-19 in the country is very large despite the fact that there are many cases without symptoms.
