Madrid –
Real Madrid beat Atalanta 3-1 in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. The Whites are entitled to the quarterfinals 4-1 in total.
Atalanta arrived at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium, Wednesday (3/17/2021) early in the morning WIB, with the capital a 0-1 defeat in the first leg. After pressing at the start of the game, La Dea fell behind in the first half thanks to a goal from Karim Benzema.
The second half was very bad for Atalanta. Attempts to continue attacking failed and resulted in penalties. Sergio Ramos went ahead as executor to make it 2-0 to El Real.
Atalanta had closed the gap to 1-2 thanks to Lusi Muriel, but shortly after Marco Asensio scored to close the match with a 3-1 victory for Madrid. These results lead Madrid to the quarterfinals 4-1 on aggregate.
The course of the match
Atalanta tried to repress Madrid from the first minute. Robin Gosens shoots from close range, but Thibaut Courtois stops the ball.
Atalanta again scattered threats in the 14th minute. It was Cristian Romero’s turn to threaten from a foul scheme and the ball was blocked.
A minute later it was Berat Djimsiti’s turn to threaten. The ball thrown from the korner scheme has not yet been directed to the goal.
Madrid only opened their first shot in the 18th minute through Toni Kroos. From afar, the ball he released could be blocked by the Atalanta defender.
Madrid still have a hard time dismantling Atalanta’s defense despite the fact that they have taken control of the game. Vinicius Junior’s attempt in the 26th minute was blocked by the opponent.
Madrid opened a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute. Marco Sportiello was unable to communicate properly with the defender so Luca Modric’s short ball was cut off.
The Madrid midfielder then dribbled into the penalty area, which then served as bait for Karim Benzema. When Sportiello was out of the net, Benzema scored without problems.
Atalanta tried to get up to answer. Ruslan Malinovskiy shoots from distance in the 41st minute, but his shot has yet to reach the target. Until the break, the 1-0 scoreboard lasted for Madrid.
Atalanta played freely in the second half. That was clear because La Dea had to find two goals to advance to the next round.
This situation turned out not to go well for Atalanta. Madrid are quite troublesome to launch a counterattack, especially Vinicius’s speed, which is difficult to stop.
Radael Toloi even had to face Vinicus on the penalty area line. After communicating with the VAR, the referee sanctioned a penalty for Madrid and Sergio Ramos intervened as executor to make it 2-0 in the 60th minute.
Atalanta tried to move fast. Duvan Zapata had a chance in the 66th minute, but his shot was stopped by Courtois.
A minute later, Madrid almost increased their advantage. A Benzema header at point-blank range is pushed by Sportiello and his second chance hits the crossbar.
Zapata was unable to re-enter Madrid’s goal in the 76th minute. His shot from close range was countered by Courtois’ foot.
Atalanta reduced the gap to 1-2 in the 83rd minute. Gian Piero Gasperini’s team goal was scored by Luis Muriel from a penalty.
Madrid responded to the goal a minute later. On the counterattack, Marcos Asensio beat Sportiello after directing his shot to the near post. Real also won 3-1.
