Liverpool wasted no time to continue strengthening their squad. After Thiago Alcántara, it was Diogo Jota’s turn to be inaugurated as a player for the Reds.

Transfer Jota was launched on Saturday (9/19/2020) at WIB night, after Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers agreed to transfer £ 41 million with a bonus of up to £ 4 million.

Jota has been in Liverpool since yesterday for a medical at Melwood before signing a five-year contract today. Jota will wear the number 20 jersey previously worn by Adam Lallana.

“What a moment for me and my family,” Jota said on the club’s official website.

“The path of life from when I was a child until now is unimaginable, to join a club like Liverpool, world champion. I can’t wait to start,” continued the Portuguese player.

“This is one of the best teams in the world, the best in the world right now because they are world champions. When you look at the Premier League, you always see Liverpool as one of the best teams in the country, so it’s very difficult to turn down your offer”.

“So we really want to come here, do our best and I hope to be a good fit for Liverpool in the future.”

Jota started his career at Pacos de Ferreira, a local Portuguese club before being drafted by Atlético de Madrid in 2016. However, he never played in the first team and was loaned to Porto in 2016/2017 before moving to Wolverhampton in 2017 / 2018.

At the time Wolverhampton was still in the Championship Division and Diogo Jota managed to carry the club’s promotion to the Premier League. During three seasons playing for Wolverhampton, Jota scored 44 goals in 131 appearances, including 16 goals and 6 assists in 48 games last season.

Diogo Jota is Liverpool’s third purchase after Kostas Tsimikas and Thiago.
