Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Chinese defector virologist Li-Meng Yan finally released his investigation report that accused the novel corona virus as the cause of Covid-19 and was conducted at the state laboratory in Wuhan, China.
He published the report, the digital magazine Zenodo, which can be accessed by all parties. The report is titled “Unusual features of the SARS-CoV-2 genome suggesting sophisticated laboratory modification rather than natural evolution and delineation of its probable synthetic pathway.” This research was written by Li-Meng Yan with two other researchers.
In his article, Li-Meng Yan believes that Covid-19 can be “easily manufactured” in a laboratory in six months. and “SARS-CoV-2 has biological characteristics incompatible with zoonotic viruses of natural origin (transmitted from animals to humans).
“The theory of the origin of the virus in nature, although widely accepted, does not have substantial support,” Li-Meng Yan wrote in the report, quoted by News.com, on Wednesday (9/16/2020).
“The alternative theory that the virus may have originated in research laboratories is strictly censored in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Despite this, SARS-CoV-2 exhibits biological characteristics incompatible with naturally occurring zoonotic viruses.”
“In this report, we describe the medical, structural, and genomic evidence that, when taken together, is in strong contradiction to the theory of natural origin. The evidence suggests that SARS-CoV-2 is a laboratory product made from the Bat coronavirus ZC45 and / or ZXC21 as a model. “
Li-Meng Yan is a former supervisor at the Hong Kong School of Public Health, a reference laboratory for the World Health Organization (WHO). In April 2020, Li-Meng Yan reportedly fled Hong Kong to the United States (USA).
In response to the release of this report, some evolutionary and infectious disease biologists felt that no new information would be provided, making many unsubstantiated claims and a weak scientific case.
“This pre-printed report cannot be given credibility at this time,” said Andrew Preston, an expert at the University of Bath, UK.
“This report is not based on an objective interpretation of the SARS-CoV2 genome. The interpretations made are unsupported, unsupported, and largely unexplained. The report does not appear to have started with an open hypothesis about the origin of SARS. -CoV2 “.
Jonathan Eisen, an evolutionary biologist at the University of California, called the report “full of unsubstantiated claims.”
