PURBALINGGA, KOMPAS TV – A climber named Elsa Qurratul Aini had to be evacuated while climbing Mount Slamet via the Bambangan route, Purbalingga, Central Java, on Friday night (10/30/2020).

The reason is that this 19-year-old woman residing in Banyumas experienced symptoms of acute mountain sickness (AMS) while at Mount Slamet No. 2.

The head of the climbing post from Mount Slamet via Bambangan, Saiful Amri, said that before carrying out the evacuation, the main camp received a report that a climber was ill at around 5.30pm WIB.

After verification, Saiful said, officers finally deployed a SAR team to pick up the survivors.

According to him, the SAR team went to post two to evacuate around 7:00 p.m. WIB. Eventually, the team managed to evacuate the survivors on a stretcher.

“Then the SAR team arrived at base camp around 11.30pm WIB,” Saiful said when confirmed, as quoted by Kompas.com on Monday (03/11/2020).
