JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The competition for the highest caste in Indonesian soccer, League 1, and also League 2, which was originally going to continue on October 1, 2020, was officially postponed for a month until November 2020.

This decision was announced directly by PSSI President Mochamad Iriawan at a press conference also attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali, at the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports Office on Tuesday (29 / 9/2020).

According to Mochamad Iriawan, the decision to postpone League 1 and League 2 until November cannot be separated from the attitude of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) regarding security permits.

On Monday (9/28/2020), the National Police decided not to give permission to the crowd at certain levels because the situation of the corona virus pandemic in Indonesia had not improved.

Mochamad Iriawan said PSSI respected the police decision.

Mochamad Iriawan hopes that the corona virus pandemic in Indonesia can improve in the next month so that League 1 and League 2 can continue in November 2020.

“In response to this, PSSI respects and understands the decision of the National Police Headquarters. Security, protection and humanitarian considerations are the most important,” said Mochamad Iriawan.

“PSSI asked to postpone the competition for a month. If it starts in November, the competition will be appropriate and will end in Aret. If in December, it will be resigned, April is Ramadan, while May has entered the preparations for the U-20 World Cup. of 2021, “said Mochamad Iriawan.

“We ask for a month to be able to launch the competition again. If not, a generation this year will have difficulties,” said Mochamad Iriawan.

“PSSI appreciates the club for their enthusiasm, sacrifice and preparation of their team for the continuation of this competition. However, the competition must be postponed again because humanitarian and security factors are more important,” said Mochamad Iriawan.

“Hopefully the corona virus pandemic improves soon so that competition can start again in November 2020,” said Mochammad Iriawan.

This season’s League 1 was postponed for the first time due to the corona virus pandemic on March 14, 2020.

Mochamad Iriawan announced the decision after the opening match of Liga 2 2020.

At that time, the PSSI decided to postpone League 1 and League 2 for two weeks.

Two weeks later, on March 27, 2020, PSSI extended the suspension of League 1 and League 2 with consideration of the state of emergency disaster due to coronavirus in Indonesia.

League 1 and League 2, which were originally scheduled to resume in early April 2020, have been postponed until May with a consideration period until June.

According to Mochamad Iriawan, the postponement period of the contest should be extended because the situation is already classified as force majeure.

The decision was expressed in Decree SKEP / 48 / III / 2020 dated March 27, 2020.

In the letter, League 1 and League 2 are scheduled to resume in July 2020.

Not only that, PSSI also allows the participating teams of League 1 and League 2 to change the employment contract that has been agreed with the players.

The salaries of players, coaches, staff and officials for the months of April to June can be adjusted to only 25 percent of the contractual obligations.

Towards the end of the consideration of the suspension of the competition, PSSI made a new decision on June 28, 2020.

PSSI announced that League 1 and League 2 would resume in early October 2020.

PSSI’s decision caused PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) as the competition operator to move quickly to compile a new schedule, new regulations for health protocols.

Some of the new rules that are planned to be implemented in the continuation of League 1 are the centralized competition in Java, matches without spectators, opening of the transfer market and no relegation.

Exactly on July 19, 2020, PT LIB announced that the League 1 season would continue on October 1, 2020.

League 1, which has 31 weeks left, will run for five months until February 2021.

The announcement of the new schedule prompted the teams participating in League 1 to prepare immediately by gathering players, renegotiating contracts, reviewing the team and determining the stadium to be used as home.

Although they were already prepared, PT LIB and the participating teams of League 1 in the end had to accept the decision of the PSSI to extend the suspension period until November 2020.

When postponed in March 2020, League 1 2020 had just completed the initial three-week schedule with Persib Bandung atop the provisional standings.
