WARTAKOTALIVE.COM, JAKARTA – The sad news of the former minister in the Suharto era passed away, on Friday (4/9/2020).

The news of Abdul Gafur’s death was shared by Wantimpres Agung Laksono.

He died at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital on Friday September in the ICU ward on the first floor at 0635 WIB.

According to the doctor’s statement, the late Abdul Gafur died of Covid-19 positive with other accompanying diseases such as hypercoagulation, anemia, AKI and onCKD, and type 2 diabetes.

The former president of the Constitutional Court, Jimly Asshidiqie, also reported the same through his Twitter account.

“Innalillahi wainna ilaihi rojiuun. At 6:35 am this morning, former Menpora Dr. Abdul Gafur passed away. We pray for Husnulkhotimah. Alfatihah for the deceased,” Jimly tweeted on Friday (4/9/2020).

The former Menpora from the period 1978-1988 has reportedly been treated at the Gatot Subroto Military Hospital, Jakarta, since the end of last August.

During his life, in addition to serving as Menpora, the man who was born in North Maluku on June 20, 1939, also held various strategic positions in this country.

For example, being a member of the DPR of the TNI faction for the period 1972-1978 and a member of the DPR RI of the Golkar faction for the period 2004-2009.

Abdul Gafur also served as Vice President of the MPR RI from 1997-1999 and President of the Supreme Judicial Council (DPA) in 1988-1997.
