Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
The Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI) stated that they will not participate with other labor organizations or students in the demonstration against the Cipta Kerja Omnibus Law today, Thursday (8/10) at the Palace.
KSPI President Said Iqbal emphasized that KSPI-affiliated labor groups will continue to hold a national strike in factories or industries in each region.
“The workers (KSPI) took action in their respective factories. There was no action at the DPR or the Palace,” Iqbal said via text message to CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (8/10) night.
Iqbal said that the decision was in accordance with KSPI’s notification letter as KSPI workers would only hold a national strike in the factory environment of each region for three days since last Tuesday (10/6).
The national strike was carried out by KSPI together with 32 federations and confederations to urge President Joko Widodo to revoke the ratification of the Ciptaker Omnibus bill that was repealed by the DPR on Monday (5/10).
Iqbal was concerned about the ratification of the investment withdrawal bill which was seen as hasty and “catching up.”
“In addition, there are several fundamental problems that are considered detrimental to workers’ rights and have an impact on job security, income security and social security,” he said.
It is known that a series of workers, students and civil organizations will carry out an action today demanding the repeal of the Ciptaker Omnibus Law in the Palace. This action was at the same time the culmination of a series of national strike actions carried out by workers for three days since last Tuesday (10/6) in various regions.
The general secretary (Sekjen) of the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KASBI), Sunarno, estimates that 20 thousand joint masses will gather near the Palace demanding the repeal of the Ciptaker Law.
“Estimates of coworkers and other organs of the movement, around 20 thousand,” he added.
