JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has examined the mobile phones of six members of the Front of Islamic Defenders (FPI) Laskar, who died in a confrontation with the police.

Komnas HAM Commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsari said that a total of seven cellphones belonging to six FPI members had been questioned.

The seven cell phones were brought by Bareskrim Polri investigators who were present for the investigation at the Komnas HAM office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (12/23/2020).

From examination of the cell phone, Komnas HAM found a voice recording or a voice memo when FPI Laskar members coordinated with each other before the confrontation occurred. The recordings are similar to those previously circulated to the public.

Beka said that from the voice recordings, the timeline of the crash became clearer.

“(The test) on mobile phones is just about the timeline. How to confirm the many voice notes in circulation,” Beka told Kompas.com on Wednesday night.

“Not yet. It’s just one of many previous sequences,” he said.

In addition to checking mobile phones, Komnas HAM investigators also examined the weapons that served as evidence of the confrontation. The Bareskrim investigators were carrying six firearms. Four of the manufactured weapons belonged to the police, while the two non-manufactured weapons were identified by the police as belonging to the FPI.

In the incident on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road on Monday morning (7/12/2020), six members of the FPI Laskar were shot dead by police. At that time, members of FPI Laskar escorted leader Rizieq Shihab’s group.

During the reconstruction on Monday morning (12/14/2020), the police described that members of the FPI laskar first attacked and shot the police during the incident.

According to the police, two members of the FPI laskar died after a shooting. Later, four other members of the FPI Laskar were shot after allegedly attempting to seize police weapons in the car.

Bareskrim Polri revealed that there were a total of 18 gunshot wounds in the six bodies of members of the FPI laskar. Furthermore, no signs of violence were found on the six bodies. Police said the results of the reconstruction were not final. Additional reconstruction may be possible if there are new findings.

On the other hand, the FPI previously denied that members of the laskar attacked and shot the police first. The FPI said that the police were not in uniform and that several cars had ambushed them.

Therefore, the Rizieq guard army tried to get rid of the unidentified car. Then a car carrying 6 FPI soldiers separated from the main group. The FPI also confirmed that the laskar members were not equipped with firearms.

“We call for a stop to all fabrication and defamation,” said Munarman, FPI secretary general.
