Liverpool –
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp is pleased with his team’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur. But Klopp insisted that Spurs’ return goal was offside.
Liverpool crushed Tottenham at Anfield in the Premier League on Thursday (12/17/2020). Playing in front of their own fans, the Reds seemed to dominate the game.
With more than 70 percent possession of the ball, Liverpool created 17 attempts (11 on goal). Meanwhile, Tottenham, who played defense, only made eight attempts (2 on goal).
Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead in the 26th minute. Then, less than 10 minutes later, Tottenham scored a return goal from South Korean soccer star Son Heung-min.
Son’s goal was reviewed by the VAR before passing. Suspecting that Son was already in an offside position when he received a pass from Giovani Lo Celso. However, in the last minute of regulation time Roberto Firmino broke the hearts of the whites and his goal sealed the victory of the hosts.
“Before it was really a very good game against the monster of the counterattack, the possession of the ball that we have is very good,” Klopp said in BBC Sport. “The best way to defend Tottenham is to keep the ball.”
“Yeah, they scored a goal and had two chances. Other than that, we managed the game and we really deserved three points. I’m happy.”
“For me, [gol Spurs] is offside. They’ve seen him 20 times, but when I saw him, he was offside, “said Klopp, who fully believed that Son Heung-min’s goal should have been disallowed.
