JAKARTA – Jumhur Hidayat became one of the leaders of the Coalition for Action to Save Indonesia (WE) which was detained by the police. He was identified as a suspect of violating the Law (UU) on Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) because he was accused of incitement related to the demonstration against the Cipta Kerja (Ciptaker) Omnibus Law.

So what is Jumhur Hidayat’s profile like? The man who was born in Bandung on February 18, 1968, was Head of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Workers of Indonesia (BNP2TKI) in the era of the Government of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). For seven years, from January 11, 2007 to March 11, 2014, Jumhur Hidayat served as BNP2TKI.

In the 2014 presidential and vice-presidential elections, Jumhur Hidayat became a supporter of the couple Joko Widodo (Jokowi) – Jusuf Kalla (JK). At the time, Jumhur Hidayat served as a volunteer declarer for Jokowi who was part of the Free People’s Alliance (ARM).

Usually, Jumhur demonstrations when he was a student about the process of eviction of people’s land such as the Badega, Kacapiring, Cimacan and Kedung Ombo land cases, whose themes were highlighted in 1988 and the defense of farmers’ rights. As a result, Jumhur felt that he was the target of the security forces at the time.

On August 5, 1989, Jumhur Hidayat was arrested along with his colleagues such as Mochammad Fadjroel Rachman, who is now the spokesperson for President Jokowi, Arnold Purba, Supriyanto alias Enin, Amarsyah and Bambang Sugiyanto Lasijanto. They were arrested for holding a student demonstration against the arrival of Interior Minister Rudini on Saturday 5 August 1989 at 1:00 pm on the WIB in front of the ITB campus.

On the same day, the ITB rector fired Jumhur Hidayat and five of his fellow ITB students. On November 29, 1989, Jumhur began his trial in the Bandung District Court. Then the Bandung District Court panel of judges on Thursday February 8, 1990 sentenced Jumhur Hidayat, Amarsyah and Bambang to three years in prison each with a period of temporary detention.

In addition, Jumhur Cs on February 25, 1992 breathed free air from Sukamiskin Penitentiary. After a long period of inactivity, Adi Sasono invited Jumhur to join the Center for Information and Development Studies (CIDES) in early 1993. Jumhur was expected to be the executive director of a center for development studies organized by the figures from the Indonesian Association of Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI). .

He was at CIDES until 1999. While at CIDES, Jumhur returned to study at the National Physical Engineering University (Unas) Jakarta and graduated in 1996. In addition, Jumhur has served as Secretary General or Acting President of the Sovereign Party of the People (PDR) for the elections. General 1999 and Secretary General of the Sarikat Party of Indonesia (PSI) for the 2004 elections.

Jumhur also served as National Coordinator of the Popular Coalition for SBY-JK supporters prior to the 2004 Presidential Elections, as well as National Coordinator of the II Democratic Coalition for SBY-Boediono prior to the 2009 Presidential Elections.
