jpnn.com, JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for associating Islam with acts of terrorism or extremism.
According to the man who is familiarly called Jokowi, Macron should not make such serious accusations.
This was relayed by Jokowi after meeting with Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin, along with religious leaders from MUI, NU, Muhammadiyah, KWI, PGI, PHDI, Permabudi, and Matakin, as well as ministers from the Indonesian Advanced Cabinet in the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta. Saturday (10/31).
In this meeting the development of the world was discussed, especially related to the brotherhood between religious believers.
“First, Indonesia strongly condemns the violence that occurred in Paris and Nice and that has claimed lives,” Jokowi said.
Second, Jokowi continued, Indonesia harshly criticized French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement, which insulted Islam.
“That has hurt the feelings of Muslims around the world, which could divide the unity of the world’s religious believers at a time when the world needs unity to face the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
In addition, Jokowi also considered Macron’s attitude of damaging freedom of expression and damaging the honor of chastity.
