Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) prohibits all government projects and state-owned companies (BUMN) from using goods to import. This is done in order to increase the Level of the Household Component (TKDN).

“Do not allow government projects, BUMN projects still use imported goods. If they can be blocked, it will increase the demand for domestic products, which is not small,” Jokowi said at the Hipmi 2021 National Work Meeting, on Friday (5 /3).

Jokowi stated that Indonesia could produce its own pipes. However, there are still several government and BUMN projects that use imported pipes.

“What for? In fact, it is used for government projects, although it is used for BUMN projects. I say no, no,” Jokowi said.

According to him, if the government and the BUMN projects really stop the use of imported goods, the demand for domestic products will increase rapidly. This will benefit the local industry.

“It has to start and we really have to have the courage to start at least from the government and BUMN. It’s a huge number,” Jokowi explained.

Still, Jokowi stressed that this does not mean that Indonesia is adhering to a protectionist system. It ensures that Indonesia remains open to foreign cooperation.

He also understands that technology in Indonesia is not yet as strong as abroad. For this reason, Jokowi allows importing or taking technology from foreign companies.

“But domestic production, production in Indonesia. We always require the transfer of technology and human resources (HR) to continue, so that they can be updated,” concluded Jokowi.
