Jokowi appoints Muhammad Lutfi to become Minister of Commerce

Muhammad Lutfi was appointed the new Minister of Commerce. He replaced Agus Suparmanto.

“Finally, Mr. Muhammad Luthfi,” said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) when announcing 6 new ministerial candidates in his cabinet, on Tuesday (12/22/2020).

Lutfi previously served as Minister of Commerce in the era of the sixth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). Previously, Lutfi had also served as a director of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

“He was previously the Head of BKPN, then the Minister of Commerce,” continued Jokowi.

Additionally, Lutfi was appointed Indonesian Ambassador to Japan. Ultimately, Lutfi served as Ambassador to the United States before being appointed Minister of Commerce.

Then the ambassador to Japan and finally the ambassador to the United States, and now we will give him the task of leading the Ministry of Commerce, ”Jokowi said.
